                                                                                           CLERODENDRUM SCHWEINFURTHII

Clerodendrum schweinfurthii originates from Tropical West Africa and Asia and is a member of the Lamiaceae family and sometimes the Verbenaceae family. It very uncommon in Australia. I have not been able to find a common name other than above.

The flowers are snow white perfumed clusters of flowers along its woody branches in spring and sometimes in autumn. It grows to around 1.5 – 2 metres and is evergreen and needs to be in Tropical or sub-tropical areas.

It is a tough plant and can take dappled light, can be immersed for a period of time, it can take hot sun for short periods, it is drought tolerant and frost hardy.

The only downside (if that) is that it tends to send out small suckers close to the stem. It will eventually form a sturdy trunk (if allowed) that is greyish in colour. Another feature is the very distinctive fruit of white with blue-black centres.

I have only been able to research this amount of information as very little is known of this plant.
