$20.00

BOMAREA HIRTELLA syn. B. EDULIS
CLIMBING ALSTROMERIA
Bomarea come from the Alstromereaceae family and are a very hardy climber from Mexico and on down through the Andes and the edges of the Chilean jungle.

It grows to 4 metres with glossy green leaves and large heads of multiple alstromeria- like flowers. The flowers are a mix of orange, pink, yellow & red and flower from late spring to autumn (this depends on location as I have had flowers most of the warmer months).

Bomarea hirtella forms deep long lived tubers and although reputed to be tender, when well established they will withstand temperatures as low as minus 15 degrees C.

They like lightly shaded conditions are not tolerant of heat and prefer a cool, humid environment.

In summer, growth is very rapid, and the vines can reach 5metres in three or four months. Flowers trusses develop on the end of the growing shoots and are arranged in an open inflorescence and are magenta pink with spotting on both the inner and outer petals. The individual flowers when mature are 20mm across and 30mm long.
