It is a 3 metre x 2.5 metre shrub that has white flowers in winter followed by brilliant red berries.

The foliage is shiny, grey/green and evergreen and is a member of the Rose family, it does well in most soil types in full sun or partial sun.

It is attractive to bees, butterflies and birds, particularly small birds because it affords them protection from predators. It is also a source of food for most birds.
