PARACHUTE VINE or UMBRELLA PLANT

Ceropegia sandersonii is a member of the Apocynaceae family and is native to Mozambique, South Africa, and Swaziland.
It is a slender twining vine and has succulent leaves. The attraction is the amazing flowers. They are 50 – 75mm long with a funnel shaped flower that is held on a small stalk. The flowers are green and white and are shaped like a parachute and quite distinctive.
Pollination is conducted by flies and felt by hairs of the petals. When a fly is detected it is trapped by the fused flower petals until the hairs weaken, by which time the fly is covered in pollen.
It grows to around 1500mm and is best grown on a trellis or grown in a hanging basket. It like light shade when grown outdoors or high to medium light indoors.
