RUELLIA AFFINIS

RED RUELLIA or WILD PETUNIA

Ruellia affinis is a native of Brazil and is a member of the Acanthacea family. Although the common name is Wild Petunia they are not related to Petunia genera.
This plant is very attractive to bees, butterflies and birds.
The Wild Petunia is native of Brazil and is a shrub that grows to around 1 – 1.2 metres and has large red- orange trumpet type flowers approx. 75mm long.
A tropical perennial with bright orange red 50mm wide flowers, and are trumpet shaped approximately 100mm long and this shrub grows to around1 metre and is a Somewhat sprawling and is best in bright shade.
This is an uncommon vining shrub and best when tipped to keep bushy.
SOILS: The vining shrub will enjoy most soil types but prefers well drained moisture retentive soil.
PLANTING: Dig the hole twice the size of the pot and plant level with the surrounding soil. Water inn well.
CARE: Prune after flowering and this will produce more flowers the following season. Fertilise after pruning and mulch well to conserve water.
