AZORES JASMINE, RIVER JASMINE & SCENTED JASMINE,
Jasminum azoricum will give you the best results with careful planting will ensure the longevity of your vine. The vine will appreciate fertile soil with some moisture retention and good drainage. It will grow to around 3 metres high and flowers with white star shaped flowers that are beautifully scented and arise from spring to autumn and spot flowers at other times.
Dig the hole at least twice the size and depth as the pot. Carefully remove the plant from the pot without pulling on the stem or the stake. Plant in the hole so that the pot soil level matches ground level and fill in around it. Water thoroughly and add soil if settling occurs. Do not compact the soil by stepping hard on it.
Keep the soil moist, but not wet by watering regularly throughout the first season of growth. Granular or liquid fertilizer may be used, but should be kept light during the first season to encourage root growth.
Jasminum azoricum will not need much pruning in its first year or two. Prune only to guide the plant to the form you want it to take. Always cut just above a bud node to avoid leaving a long section of dead stem.
Remember that the plant will branch at the point where you prune, so prune low for a fuller appearance or remove all but two or three stems to train long over an arch or arbour. Always remove diseased or dead stems as you see them, whatever the season.
With a good start and attention during establishment, your vine will be beautiful and long lasting additions to your garden!
ENJOY THIS GREAT CLIMBER!
