PASSIFLORA RACEMOSA
SCARLET PASSION, SCARLET PASSION VINE or CASCADING PASSION FLOWER
Passiflora racemosa is a native of Brazil and a member of the Passifloraceae family.
It is a beautiful evergreen vine with clusters of flowers hanging 300mm long of 8-12 bright scarlet/red flowers. The individual flowers are about 130 mm across. The flowers usually are borne in opposing pairs on the pendent racemes, and are produced throughout the summer and autumn. They bare small, oblong, deep green edible fruits about 70 mm in length. The stems of red passionflower are slender and angled, and the leaves are sparsely distributed on the stems.
It likes growing in full sun to part shade and regular to provide a humid atmosphere. It does not mind being grow in pot culture and can be used on a trellis, a fence or a garden tepee.
Pruning should be done annually to keep the vine free from dead growth, it is butterfly attracting.
