BURNING BEACON or NATAL FLAME BUSH
Alberta magna is a member of the Rubiaceae family and is native to South Africa.
The Natal Flame bush is a large shrub or small tree that grows from 8 m to 13 m high and has glossy evergreen leathery leaves. It is slow growing and depending on location may not be much above shrub size but in the wild grows much taller.
The flowers are orange-red and upturned in whorls that look stunning against the deep green foliage. They appear from autumn to summer and hold for a long time.
It likes a warm coastal area but is frost and drought tender. It is showy shrub/tree but can be difficult to grow at times, it likes a moist climate, is suited to coastal areas.
